KENT TURN THE TIDES


Kent Cricket Club (KCC) have been able to turn their fortunes around and bounce back immediately following two defeat in their last two outings. Last Sunday,12th May 2019, the Kent team played a double header in the ongoing Sierra Leone Mercury T20 Premier League at the Prince of Wales School Ground and won both games.


The teams first encounter was against Phillip CC. Kent batted first and finished on a score of 151/7 after their allotted 20 overs. There were contributions throughout the order with all of the top five making double figures. The standout batsmen for KCC was Musa Sam Ganda who held the innings together scoring 34 off 32 balls, including 3 boundaries. The standout bowler for Phillip CC was Tamba Thorlie who took three wickets from his four overs.


Kent with the ball in hand were able to take wickets at regular intervals and bowled out their opponents for 136 from 18.2 overs. KCC were able to prevent batsmen making past the 20 run mark, with the standout bowlers being Nabeel and Sanjay who remarkably shared the same figures of 4 overs 3-22. Kent came out winners of the close game eventually winning by 15 runs. Nabeel Shazad was awarded the Man of the match award.


In the afternoon attention turned to the fixture against Wanderers Cricket Club. In this game KCC bowled first and were once again showing their quality with the ball. KCC bowled out Wanderers CC for 79 runs from 14.3 overs. The wickets were shared out amongst all of the bowlers but three wickets a piece for Alie and Kaiwandi Pessima gain the plaudits. Musa Sam Ganda was able to continue his good day with the bat and were able to steer KCC towards victory; his knock of 33 coming off a mere 19 balls provided the backbone for the chance which was completed after 7.4 overs.


Despite this Edward G Senesie, a bowler from Wanderers CC deserves a special mention as he was the only bowler who took wickets during the Kent innings. Musa Sam Ganda was awarded the Man of the match award.
