The British High Commissioner in action at the Beach Cricket Festival
Guy Warrington, the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, helped the British High Commission/DFID Beach Cricket Team to defeat the Sierra Leone 2009 U19 team in the Beach Cricket Festival 2018 at The Place Resort, Tokeh Beach on Sunday 25th February 2018. The festival was hosted by the Kent Cricket Club in partnership with the Sierra Leone Cricket Association.
After winning the toss, the British High Commission/DFID chose to bat. Guy Warrington opened the batting with John Hunt from Tilford Cricket Club in the UK, who happened to be the captain of the British High Commission/DFID Beach Cricket Team. The opening pair batted very well, sharing in a partnership of over 50 runs. John Hunt batted brilliantly, scoring an outstanding 32 before he was forced to retire due to the law, while the left-handed Guy Warrington was not too far behind, coring a breezy and exciting 28. At the end of the innings, BHC/DFID scored 93runs from their five overs.
In reply, Sierra Leone 2009 U19 team started confidently, but the British High Commission/DFID bowled superbly and took four wickets in as many as overs. With 20 runs to defend in the last over, High Commissioner Guy Warrington was consistent in line and length. The match went down to the final ball, with six runs to win. Guy Warrington allowed the batsman to score only four runs, thus seeing his team to their only victory in the competition. Cricket has always been a special sport to the British people, who ardently follow the game, wherever in the world they may be. Thus, it was not surprising to see the enthusiasm of Mr. Guy Warrington, who played for the British High Commission/DFID team in the competition and who was in full attendance alongside the head of UKaid in Sierra Leone, Mary Hunt, who also watched the match.
