KENT CRICKET CLUB WINS OPENING PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH

Kent Cricket Club register their first win in the Sierra Leone Cricket Association Premier League ODI 2016/2017 season by beating Old Edwardians Cricket Club by five (5) wickets in their opening match on Sunday 4th December 2016. This was a great win for a team that just gained promotion from the Division One League and truly a huge boost of confidence for the team.

Old Edwardians Cricket Club won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Old Edwardians scored 128 runs in 30.3 overs. Radith scored 41 runs and Emmanuel Mansaray who is on loan from Kent scored 19 runs. Kent's right hand off spinner Osman Thomas Sankoh took four wickets for 16runs in 4.3 overs. He bowled really well by picking up wickets. Mohamed Lamin Kamara supported him equally well by keeping up the pressure and also picked up two crucial wickets.

While chasing the target, Kent Cricket Club scored 129 runs in 24 overs after the loss of five wickets. Kent's skipper James Bundu a regular opener was not available for this particular match, Musa Sam Ganda a debutant stepped in to replace him as an opener. The wicket keeper batsman Momodu Gbla and Musa opened the innings.

The two openers looked really good in the middle. Musa looked tremendously good and went on to score his first half-century of the season. He looked in complete control and was timing the ball really well. Momodu Gbla was supporting Musa well and was playing the anchor role at the other end. Musa got out for 50 runs when the score was 118 runs. His innings was also supported by Momodu Gbla and Emmanuel Pessima, who contributed 22runs and 26runs, respectively.

Kent played well, the top order looked in good form and the bowling looked impressive as well but however the team has to still improve a lot in the fielding department and try to improve as much as possible before their next two matches against Regent Olympics Cricket Club on Saturday 10th December and on Sunday 11th December against the league favorite Mid West Cricket Club.

The bulk of the players who are part of the current Kent team have gone through the Kent grassroots program sponsored by Onlime Business Communications one of Sierra Leone’s premier Internet Service Providers and licensed VoIP operator. Onlime have been the biggest sponsor of Kent Cricket Club. They recently sponsored the trip of the Founder and CEO of Kent CC Emmanuel Pessima to Nigeria and Greece.

The Kent playing kit is sponsored and supplied by the Twenty20 Community Cricket in England. Darren Talbot, Managing Director, Twenty20 Community Cricket has been of great help to the club since the inception. He has set up a website for the club since 2012.
